To provide secure insurance coverage for our policyholders and ensure prudent long term growth while preserving our rural Saskatchewan roots...
Germania Mutual Insurance traces its origins to the early 1900s when several fires ravaged farms in the Hoffenthal District northeast of Langenburg, SK. Jacob Lowenberger’s barn was struck by lightning and several head of livestock and valuable horses perished.
Without insurance – no agents were available and premiums were exorbitant – neighbours and church members helped the Lowenberger family offset their losses and this tragedy became the genesis for a type of mutual aid insurance company.
In the spring of 1909, 30 farmers affixed their signatures to a charter application with a board of provisional directors. The first annual meeting was held May 1, 1909 in the Imperial Hotel in Langenburg (ironically the site of the company’s head office until June 2019).
Today Germania Mutual Insurance Company offers its insurance products in several communities in Saskatchewan through brokers from Estevan to Choiceland and from Langenburg to Langham.
Germania Mutual Insurance Co. is an independent mutual insurance company that grew it's success in a small rural town in Saskatchewan. The spirit of mutual insurance is intertwined in the fabric of it's communities.
"SMALL ENOUGH TO CARE BIG ENOUGH TO SHARE" - Being a Mutual, premiums stay within the community, employing neighbours, supporting the local economy and giving back. It is our mandate to invest and support in local projects where our policyholders are most passionate about.
